Arrive in Old Town Temecula where you will receive area information, to explore the Temecula Valley Museum, curio shops, and over 450 antique dealers, many in historic buildings, along the rustic streets. A popular Farmer's Market is held each Saturday.
Legend has it this valley was named by Nahachish, an Indian wanderer whose life was spent traveling from place to place, naming things. Standing on a hillside viewing the vast lands below, he saw smoke rising from Indian campfires on the valley floor mixing with thick mist flowing over the western hills. Sunshine passed through this haze, creating diffused sunbeams. Absorbing the scene, Nahachish proclaimed this beautiful area "Temeku", which would become Temecula, after Spanish missionaries settled the valley, literally translated meaning "land where the sun shines through the mist".
Churon Inn and Winery is the initial stop for wine tasting and delicious gourmet picnic lunch. A full service winery featuring a 22 room inn, this beautiful facility overlooks the peaceful Temecula Wine Country from atop a vineyard-cloaked hill. Winemaker Bennie has been receiving wonderful feedback for the reds he is producing.
Wilson Creek Winery is the next stop for an entertaining presentation and wine tasting often hosted by a dynamic Wilson family member. Perhaps Temecula's most popular winery, the winery's signature item, Almond Champagne, may be the talk of the visit, as well as a heavily purchased product.
VR La Cereza Winery is the ultimate stop for wine tasting. Guests will be on their own to enjoy the surroundings of this interesting boutique winery featuring a beautiful tasting room and high-end gift area with various pieces of modern art displayed. Two years running a VR La Cereza red, then white, have been awarded the honor of Temecula's best wine in an intra-winery competition.
